picture: http://novaonline.nvcc.edu/ Booking the train tickets within Russia can be a hassle from time to time. This is because the tickets are on sale with 45 days before departure. For example, the tickets for train 35/36 from Nizhny Novgorod to Moscow are available with 60 days before departure. The tickets can be issued as electronic registration or e-tickets. For some routes, the only option can be a paper ticket. Here is the difference between them: - e-ticket-  the ticket is sent on your e-mail address, you print it at home and you will need to exchange it for the actual paper ticket at any train station within Russia; - electronic registration-  the ticket is sent on your e-mail address, you print it at home and you present it along with your passport to the train attendant at the time of boarding. These tickets are not exchanged for the paper ticket. The class of travel available on Russian trains: 1st class (спальный): 2 berths per compartme...

Day by the day travel becomes more affordable and people get more information what would be the best way to arrange it. For most of us, it is easy to travel within Europe, however, would not be an adventure to visit the Baltics and some Post-Soviet states? Today I am back with a proposed itinerary from Kiev (Ukraine) to New York (United States). The trip has around 2-3 days as stopovers in Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Russia; starting from Ukraine. Following the political events in Ukraine, the officials confirmed that it is safe to travel to Kiev. If you have Crimea Peninsula in mind, please check the travel alert on Government websites. For this itinerary keep in mind to check if a visa is required to visit any of the countries, depending on your nationality. STOPOVERS FROM MOSCOW TO BEIJING

Arranging a trip from Russia to China can be a real challenge, especially if you do not know what cities are worth visiting or at least to have a guideline of the major ones along the way. Another important factor that will allow you to plan your trip is how much time you will spend transiting all three countries (Russia-Mongolia-China). Keeping in mind that a direct train from Moscow to Beijing takes around 6 days, then with stopovers, you will need more than that. When working with travelers, I notice that each one of them is following a ''pattern'' when choosing the cities to stop in. This pattern refers to what they are mainly interested in: art, history, literature and sports. So, my recommendation of a possible itinerary that will include all fields is: - St. Petersburg  also called the ''Venice of the North'' has a lot to offer in the matter of culture and history. You can visit the famous State Hermitage, which includes more than three ...

“The  traveler  sees what he sees. The tourist sees what he has come to see.”  - G. K. Chesterton My name is Doina, I work as a Travel Specialist and I started this blog as a headline for those who are interested in travelling within Europe, on Trans-Siberian, Trans-Mongolian and Trans-Manchurian line. However, my trip advice will not stop along with your arrival in Beijing. First of all, I want to underline the difference between the trip itineraries: Trans-Siberian trip : this refers to the journey within Russia, usually taken from St. Petersburg/ Moscow and finishing it in Vladivostok (with or without stops along the way) Trans-Mongolian : this represents the journey from Russia to Beijing, China, going via Mongolia. A Trans-Mongolian trip can also end in Ulan Bator, Mongolia. It can be a direct route (Moscow-Ulan Bator or with stopovers along the way as well). Trans-Manchurian : the journey is from Russia to China, avoiding Mongolia. Usually...
