Booking the train tickets within Russia can be a hassle from time to time. This is because the tickets are on sale with 45 days before departure.

For example, the tickets for train 35/36 from Nizhny Novgorod to Moscow are available with 60 days before departure.

The tickets can be issued as electronic registration or e-tickets. For some routes, the only option can be a paper ticket.

Here is the difference between them:
- e-ticket- the ticket is sent on your e-mail address, you print it at home and you will need to exchange it for the actual paper ticket at any train station within Russia;

- electronic registration- the ticket is sent on your e-mail address, you print it at home and you present it along with your passport to the train attendant at the time of boarding. These tickets are not exchanged for the paper ticket.

The class of travel available on Russian trains:
1st class (спальный): 2 berths per compartment;
2nd class (купе): 4 berths per compartment;
3rd class (плацкартный): 54 berths per compartment (common area);
